Automatic speaking refers to the verbalization of different words or phrases that occur without the conscious effort of the individual.

Within spiritualism this type of activity is interpreted as communication of messages by spirits. The question within parapsychology, whether this activity is produced by the subconscious of the speaker or from an outside source was difficult to answer. While in most cases it seems to be the subconscious of the speaker to be the source of the activity, there are some data which seem to suggest an outside source (see: cross correspondence).

"A philosophical treatise can be mostly written in object or process language,
but phenomenological descriptions must be by its very nature first person descriptions.
It is for this reason that self-observations, and personal experiences of the author are included."
