Evolution of enlightenment

by Marinus Jan Marijs

Enlightenment has long been seen as the ultimate and unchanging final goal, eternal and forever changeless. This was strived for by the mysticism of emptiness, later supplemented by non-dual mysticism. However it has become clear that not only the biological world is evolving, but also the higher non-physical worlds of subtle energies. As subtle energies are the carrier of consciousness (see: carrier of consciousness), it has to be concluded that even enlightenment is an evolving phenomenon.

The concept of evolutionary enlightenment has been put forward by a number of mystics and philosophers: Sri Aurobindo, Teilhard de Chardin, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Richard M. Burke, Gopi Krishna and Ken Wilber.

There is also a remarkable statement by Christ:
“…the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do“ [John 14:12.].

This seems to imply evolutionary development. Such evolutionary development is not only physical, biological and cultural. When related to evolutionary mystical enlightenment, the development, evolution and unfolding of subtle energies is essential.

The next four sections give a projection of how enlightenment might develop in the future.

Enlightenment now (at the present time):

  1. Permanent nirvana;
  2. The ability for paradigmatic shifts;
  3. The ability to transcend race, class, nationalism (world-centric);
  4. Integrated up to and including the integral/holistic level;
  5. A certain stability in turiya (only turiya without evolutionary development is not enough for a stabilized enlightenment);
  6. The ability to feel subtle energies. Some (albeit limited) ability to see subtle energies;
  7. One or more forms of genius;
  8. Different brainwave patterns;
  9. Shaktipat;
  10. Frequent mystical ecstasies, thousands of times during one’s life;
  • Low-subtle bhava samadhi hundreds of times;
  • High-subtle bhava samadhi tens of times;
  • Low-causal bhava samadhi once;
  • High-causal bhava samadhi once;
  1. Some developmental lines to the top;
  2. Permanent kundalini activation;
  3. Between 5 and 10 mystics incarnating at high causal level at the same time will have a transformative effect on humanity (as happened during the axial period ± 500BC);
  4. Direct insight (revelation).

Enlightenment in the future:

  1. Permanent parinirvana;
  2. The ability for cross-paradigmatic shifts;
  3. Trans-world-centric, including high subtle level;
  4. Integrated up to and including the high subtle level;
  5. A certain stability in turiyatita (turiyatita vision);
  6. The ability to feel and see subtle energies at multiple levels;
  7. More forms of genius;
  8. Different brainwave patterns;
  9. Strong shaktipat;
  10. Frequent low-/high-subtle bhava samadhi; Multiple experiences of low and high-causal bhava samadhi;
  11. More developmental lines to the top;
  12. Permanent kundalini activation and a structural reorganization of the physical body at cellular level;
  13. Transformative power on the whole of humanity;
  14. Trans-logical revelations.

 Enlightenment in the far future:

  1. Permanent mahaparinirvana;
  2. Cross-paradigmatic reasoning in multiple domains;
  3. All worlds including the subtle and causal fullness;
  4. Integrated up to and including the causal level;
  5. Total control over turiyatita vision plus understanding of multiple dimensional domains;
  6. The ability to feel and see subtle energies at all levels;
  7. Multiple forms of genius;
  8. Totally different brain functioning;
  9. Very strong shaktipat;
  10. Frequent low/high-causal bhava samadhi;
  11. A great number of developmental lines to the top;
  12. Permanent kundalini → permanent light body;
  13. Transformative power on the whole of humanity and the power to create powerful ‘Kosmic habits’;
  14. Higher trans-logical revelations.

 Enlightenment beyond the far future:

Functioning and perceiving outside space and time.

Some descriptions:

—-While standing in a room, the focus-point of consciousness moved to another place, a different time. It was as if there was a visible portal I looked through. (These portals are generally about 4 meters wide, and at a distant of 2 to 6 meters). The room I was in, disappeared from sight, and a village street was visible. I recognized the surroundings of the village where I grew up. But some of the houses that stood there, were destroyed in 1944 during the war. Being born in 1952, I never saw these houses. Not even on a photograph. I stepped into the scenery with my mental body, which was an exact mental duplicate of my physical body, which I left behind standing in the room. This wasn’t an out of the body experience. My consciousness was both on the street in 1944 and also in a room in 2014. Be it that most of my visual perception was in 1944. I could feel the breeze and the sun on my “skin”. It also wasn’t one of those panoramic visions which have a 180 degree vision, because this wasn’t like looking to a scenery, but walking into the street exactly like one walks there physically. But because the body was a mental one, it wasn’t seen by the people who were there.

Behind me was a smithy (a black smith’s workshop) that was destroyed by a grenade on October 26, 1944, but at that time was still standing there. I waited until a man on a bicycle went by and “walked” across the street. I went inside the house. In the house were my grandparents from my mother’s side, my mother at the age of twenty one, my father at the age of twenty five. In 1944 they were engaged, to be married in 1946. A cousin was also present in the room (I never met him in physical life, because he died of pneumonia, several years before I was born). My father and the cousin stayed there in the house because the Germans had put large pieces of land under water on October 8, 1944 which included my father’s elderly house.
I could follow their conversation like if I was physically present, but they were unable to see or hear me. This situation lasted perhaps for about 10 minutes, and then my consciousness returned to my room in 2014.
This places the date of this encounter between October 8, 1944 and October 26, 1944
As I was born in September 1952 this meeting was nearly 8 years before I was born, and 70 years back in time.

Historical data: Wartime, 1944 south-west Netherlands

From Wikipedia:
By September 1944, it had become urgent for the Allies to clear both banks of the (river) Scheldt estuary in order to open the port of Antwerp to Allied shipping, thus easing logistical burdens in their supply lines stretching hundreds of miles from Normandy eastward to the Siegfried Line. Since the Allied forces had landed in Normandy (France) on D-Day, June 6, 1944, the British Second Army had pushed forward into the Low Countries and captured Brussels and Antwerp, the latter with its ports still intact. But the advance halted with the British in possession of Antwerp, while the Germans still controlled the Scheldt Estuary.

In early October, Allied forces led by the Canadian First Army set out to bring the port of Antwerp under control. But the well-established German defenders staged an effective delaying action, during which the Germans flooded the Scheldt Estuary, slowing the Allied advance. Complicated by the waterlogged terrain, the Battle of the Scheldt proved to be a challenging campaign ….

In defense of the Canal through South-Beveland the Germans had on October 8 put large pieces of land under water.

In the early morning of October 26 several hundred soldiers of the Scottish 52nd (Lowland) Division aboard 137 Buffaloes of the 79th Armoured Division landed at what they called at ‘Green Beach’ and ‘Amber Beach’. Shortly before their amphibious landing, the villages were shelled with grenades. In the villages, at least half of the houses was more or less seriously damaged.

With the canal line gone, the German defence crumbled and South Beveland was cleared. The third phase of the Battle of the Scheldt was now complete.

This mental (not physical) Bi-location was 70 years back in time but only at a distance of 4 kilometres. But there were others over a vast distance:

—-There was a shift in consciousness and the interior of a house was suddenly visible. My consciousness was both in the south-west of the Netherlands and at the same time in North America in the house of an American painter. The rooms were clearly visible as is the case with normal sensory perception. I “walked” into the room which was crowded with all kinds of artifacts which the painter used as a model for his paintings. These artifacts were everywhere. The house was small but elongated. I went to an open door and entered another room where I found the painter and what seemed to be his family sitting at a table, engaged in a lively conversation. Here also artifacts everywhere. After that a shift back to my own room.

—-It seemed like seeing the earth from a distant and some kind of light point was visible, than there was a scenery with a man standing outdoors. It was an American philosopher. While I was also standing in that landscape, unobserved by that person, I tried to communicate with him but that was only possible for him on a subconscious level, and went back to my own room.

—-Suddenly there was an awareness of being in two places at the same time, and seeing these two rooms; my own room and the room of an American mystic. He immediately noticed my mental presence looked in my direction and greeted me by raising his hand. There was a deep communication, but it wasn’t verbal or even concepts. There were force lines, resonating subtle energy fields and a mental union, which lasted for about 40 minutes.

—-A shift and I was standing in a Japanese garden. Being present there in what seemed to be the future, there was a building and several people around. This was connected with a group of 3000 persons. Seemed a kind of monastery.

—-Consciousness was trans-located to a Spanish city; Barcelona. The man standing there was a graphic artist. There was a mental bi-location for about 10 minutes.

—-This time there was a sudden shift in which there was a perception of a scenery in Britain or better said being there. The person how was there present was a philosopher. There was some communication on a subconscious level about retro-causality, after that this state of union shifted back to normal consciousness.

—-A portal did open itself, this time not to a physical location but to a higher ontological level. The person who was perceived there was a mystic who had died some years ago. His appearance was humanoid but at the same time as a clear light. There was a communication but not in words. The surroundings were not ideoplastic structures, but clouds of coloured subtle energies.

"A philosophical treatise can be mostly written in object or process language,
but phenomenological descriptions must be by its very nature first person descriptions.
It is for this reason that self-observations, and personal experiences of the author are included."
